The bluebird food was gone twice and I did not see a bird take it. I suspect that the squirrels ate it.

I saw that both Bob and Doug were out in the yard today. Will check on them later.

Happy Mothers' Day. It was 75 degrees, sunny and a beautiful day out. There were birds everywhere.

Bob came by several times with his significant other. I am going to name her Betty. Bob would fly up to the sunflower seed feeder and grab a seed. He would crack it open and then fly down and feed Betty. I will have to dig into this one a little more this summer. I have a few more bird types coming into the feeders but I want to get some pictures of them first before I put them in here.

I took the day off of work. Since I was in the backyard anyways, I decided to do some work and watch birds. I saw Bob. Oh, Bob is the darker male northern cardinal that is always feeding back there. Doug is the other male northern cardinal. I saw Doug chasing Bob again, but only Bob came into the feeder. By the way, here is a picture of Doug.






I also bought another feeder and wanted to get some mealworms for it. I went over to the Wild Bird Center and they said that they were out of mealworms and that they weren't sure when they were going to get some in. I decided to buy some bluebird food instead. I will keep you posted to see how many days that the new feeder is empty of bluebirds.

Today it was raining, raining and more raining. I got a good picture of my bird bath.

This morning I got outside to the backyard around 0930. It was overcast and around 61 degrees. I cut the grass and put out seed in 2 of the feeders. It had been a few days since I had seed out and it didn't take long for the birds to find it. I saw at least 7 different species of birds. I saw 3 Northern Cardinals, several Song Sparrows and House Sparrows, a House Finch, a Blue Jay, a couple of Mourning Doves and an American Robin. This was in a matter of about 20 minutes.

The interesting thing about today was the Northern Cardinals. There were 2 males and 1 female. The males spent the whole time chasing each other and doing fly-bys while the female ate sunflower seeds on the ground. I only remember seeing 1 male and 1 female last year so it will be interesting as the summer progresses.
