World Bird Wednesday #5

Adding on to my last blog, to foil the squirrels I put some bird seed on top of the ice in the bird bath. This allowed the Carolina Wrens to come in and feed without the squirrels scaring them away.

I am really beginning to enjoy the Wrens. I remember seeing one last year, and up to four now one time this winter. The Carolina Wren Thryothorus ludovicianus is common in Northern VA in the winter. You can recognize it by its prominent white eyebrow.

  1. He's a pretty little thing but he doesn't come west. Here it is fiches and sparrows at the feeder.

  2. What a little beauty.
Looks similar to our Wrens we get here.

  3. Wrens would be a welcome guest at my feeders but so far no luck on that front. I guess you must have made peace with your squirrles. There is such an interesting balance between the Wrens beak and tail hung on that pudgy body that I would like to see in person. ;-)WBW

  4. Good looking little bird and good photos. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River,Canada.

  5. Love these guys Great shots you have posted too!! I enjoy them during nesting season they will build a nest in your porch if you allow them to!
